Module 1 - The 2030 Agenda
The 2030 Agenda module looks at designing integrated policies to achieve sustainable development and the overall contributions of modelling.
The outreach training course introduces modelling tools that support integrated policymaking for sustainable development.
Designed for policymakers and development practitioners, the course offers a practical guide on how the tools can best inform policy debates and decisions. It does not provide quantitative modelling skills, a task better accomplished by in-depth capacity development assistance or specialized academic courses.
Building on a suite of modelling tools developed over several years, the course was designed by UNDESA, UNDP and other partners. A series of modules presents each tool, offering a non-technical overview of major elements, illustrations of results and policy insights, and hands-on exercises to reinforce learning.
Modules can be used in a workshop or classroom, or for individual review. Each module consists of:
The 2030 Agenda module looks at designing integrated policies to achieve sustainable development and the overall contributions of modelling.
The CLEWS country module examines the simultaneous effects of selected sustainable development policies on water and land use, energy costs and investments, emissions and other issues.
The CLEWS global module helps ground national sustainable development policies in understanding of the impact of selected global policies on varying emissions paths, water and land use patterns, and energy costs and investments.
The universal access to electricity module illustrates how geospatial information can help identify low-cost strategies to provide universal access to electricity under different cost and consumption scenarios.
The energy systems module sheds light on the technical, economic and environmental challenges involved in steering national electrical systems towards a sustainable path.
